UWM researchers ask how movement feels

HealthyMKE editorial summary · November 3, 2026

Researchers at UWM’s Zilber College of Public Health are exploring how people experience their bodies during physical activity. An October 6 university report describes a pilot study led by kinesiology professor Christy Greenleaf with students Jordan Koeller and Alexa Newhouse.

College students wrote about their experiences with movement. Common themes included feeling comfortable in their bodies and appreciating what their bodies could do. Students also described how stress, sleep, mood, and their surroundings affected those experiences.

The work offers a local research perspective on movement that includes enjoyment, awareness, and personal capability. These are preliminary, descriptive findings from college students. They do not prove that a particular activity causes a health benefit or establish results for everyone. Read the university’s account for the study context and presentation reference.
